Who is HVACR.ai

“AI will never replace technicians… but it can work with them.”

HVACR.ai was founded by Dylan Norman. A Commercial Service Technician turned Critical Facilities Engineer by trade, and a Software Developer by choice.

2013

The College Dropout

Dylan’s journey began when he made a bold decision early in life… to drop out of college as a computer science major and carve his own path without a mountain of debt. Determined to build a career through experience and curiosity rather than textbooks, he began working in technical roles that laid the foundation for what would become his lifelong passion for problem-solving.

He started his career at Altec as an electronics technician, then joined B/E Aerospace as a mechanical technician, where he gained valuable experience working with high-precision systems and complex assemblies.

The Oppertunity

After several years in manufacturing, Dylan had the chance to join his in-laws’ family business Martin Refrigeration, based out of Warrensburg, Missouri. There, he serviced restaurants, supermarkets, and businesses throughout the Kansas City area. Learning firsthand the pressures and problem-solving challenges technicians face every day in the field.

Later, Dylan brought his refrigeration expertise to Summit Heating & Cooling, where he became one of their first full-time commercial service technicians. His role was to bridge the gap for customers who had both HVAC and refrigeration systems, allowing one trusted expert to service everything.

The Idea

It was during his time at Summit in 2023 that the spark for what would become HVACR.ai was lit. During a sales presentation for an app that helped technicians find parts and manuals, the developers claimed their built-in AI could help diagnose issues, essentially acting as a replacement for tech support. But to Dylan, the AI seemed more like a marketing gimmick than a real diagnostic tool.

That realization became the foundation for Service Assistant, an AI-powered diagnostic companion designed to think like a Master Mechanic and support real problem-solving in the field.
2025

The Launch

By 2025, Dylan had advanced his career to become a Critical Facilities Engineer at Netrality Data Centers, working on state-of-the-art industrial cooling, power distribution, and building automation systems. All the while, he continued developing Service Assistant. Refining its reasoning, interface, and workflow to serve as a true assistant for technicians everywhere.

After two years of research, planning, and development, Dylan launched HVACR.ai, the parent company behind Service Assistant.

Today, HVACR.ai stands as the bridge between human experience and artificial intelligence — built by a technician, for technicians — with a mission to make every service call faster, smarter, and more reliable.
